Dr. Farr brings to the company over 30 years of broad-based clinical research and senior management experience in both large pharmaceutical companies and CROs. Dr. Farr founded Pivotal in 2001, and since then, his 1eadership and commitment to excellence has successfully contributed to Pivotal’s growth and expansion.

Prior to founding Pivotal, Dr. Farr held various senior executive positions at several publicly traded pharmaceutical companies including Marion Merrell Dow, American Cyanamid/Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, Rhône-Poulenc Rorer and Aventis. He served as Senior Director of Scientific Affairs (R&D, Medical and Regulatory Affairs) of the Spanish and International markets. He held the position of European Director of CNS R&D at American Cyanamid/Wyeth Pharmaceuticals. Dr. Farr qualified as a physician at the Autónoma University in Madrid and specialised in Psychiatry at the Maudsley Hospital-Institute of Psychiatry in London.

He is also a Fellow of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine of the Royal Colleges of Physicians in London where he was formerly a Board member and currently serves as the Chairman of its International Committee.

Dr. José Javier García has over 25 years of clinical research experience. He joined Pivotal in 2003 as Director of Clinical Operations and he is currently Deputy General Manager and VP of the Data Management and Biostatistics (DMBS) Division. He is closely involved in Pivotal’s strategic planning and execution and is responsible for overseeing DMBS operations and leading local sales and marketing activities.

Prior to joining Pivotal, he co-founded the first Spanish CRO (Cibest) in 1987, where he held various senior management positions before becoming its General Manager. Dr. José Javier García has served as Vice President of the Spanish Association of Biostatisticians from 1996 to 2000, has founded and served as the first President of the Spanish CRO Association (AECIC) from 2003 to 2008 and has co-founded and was a Board Member of the European Federation of CROs (EUCROF) from 2005 to 2007.

Dr. José Javier holds a medical degree from Autonoma University in Madrid, where he specialised in medical statistics and received an Accreditation as expert in biological statistical methods. Since 1992, he serves as Professor of medical statistics at the Autónoma University in Madrid within the Preventive Medicine and Public Health department.

Dr. Lourdes Huarte has been serving the clinical research industry for over 20 years, which includes large pharmaceutical and CRO experience leading Phases I to IV clinical studies in Europe. She joined Pivotal in 2007 as VP of Clinical Operations and her in-depth understanding of the processes of clinical trials enables her to successfully plan and execute the global strategy of all clinical projects.

She started her career as an International CRA for American Cyanamid/Wyeth Pharmaceuticals and since then she has been rapidly promoted to various senior clinical management positions at several publicly traded pharmaceutical companies (Rhône-Poulenc Rorer and Sanofi-Aventis). Prior to joining Pivotal, she served as Medical Director and Clinical Research Unit Director at Sanofi-Aventis in Lisbon from 2002 to 2007. Lourdes has unique and wide-ranging clinical experience that covers all trial phases, observational studies, and most of the main therapeutic areas (especially oncology and gene therapy).

Lourdes received her master of pharmacy and her PhD from Complutense University in Madrid. She also holds an International MBA from Nova University in Lisbon.

Lidia Farr joined Pivotal in 2010 and brings to the company over 5 years of healthcare industry experience. She works closely with the senior management team to accelerate the design, planning and execution of Pivotal’s overall business strategy. She oversees Pivotal’s international business expansion.

Previously, she worked at J.P. Morgan in the Merger and Acquisitions (M&A) department, both in the Healthcare team in London and the Iberian team in Madrid.

Lidia holds a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from ICAI University (Universidad Pontifícia de Comillas) in Madrid. She completed her last year of engineering studies in ENSTA University (École Nationale Supérieure de Techniques Avancées) in Paris.

Dr. Ernesto Estefanía joined Pivotal in 2008 and has over 10 years of basic, translational and clinical experience. He brings a deep experience to the company as medical monitor for several phase I to III clinical trials and as scientific advisor for the design and development of clinical studies. He is highly committed to proving medical support to all other clinical departments within Pivotal as well as leading the Safety Unit.

Prior to joining Pivotal, Dr. Ernesto Estefanía worked as Clinical Immunologist at the Immunology Department of Puerta del Hierro Hospital Institute in Madrid from 2000 to 2007. During this period, Ernesto developed an intense activity in basic and translational research projects, covering different immunology fields, but mainly focusing in transplant-related areas Some of those research works were presented in national and international congresses and were published in high-impact international journals.

Dr. Ernesto received his medical degree at the Complutense University in Madrid and his specialist degree in Clinical Immunology at Puerta de Hierro Hospital in Madrid. He also holds a Master in Clinical Research and Medicine of Pharmaceutical Industry from Alcalá de Henares University in Madrid.

Dr. José Maria Viéitez brings to Pivotal over 30 years of comprehensive practical clinical experience in oncology. He joined Pivotal in January 2020 as Medical Director, Oncology to lead the oncology medical division at Pivotal and provide scientific and medical support to Pivotal´s clients throughout all phases of the drug development lifecycle.

Before this, he worked as a practicing Medical Oncologist at Hospital Universitario Central de Asturias, Spain (1992-2007), then as Head of the gastrointestinal and neuroendocrine tumours of the Medical Oncology Unit at the said Hospital (2012 to 2017) and lately, from January 2018, as Head of Medical Oncology (Digestive Tumours) at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Madrid, Spain. In parallel, he held the position of professor during more than 10 years at the School of Medicine, University of Oviedo.

José María is a seasoned clinical oncologist and a research-oriented scientist. He participated in 4 public-funded research projects in glioblastoma and colorectal cancer and in a Nanooncology group. He participated in over 19 closed non-public financed clinical trials, 12 research projects in colorectal cancer, 3 in endocrinology and 4 in gastric cancer in phases II to IV, all as Principal Investigator. During this period, he has authored or co-authored 61 papers in peer-reviewed journals, 120 abstracts, 18 oral presentations at high impact congresses and 17 book chapters.

José María received his medical degree from Clinica Universitaria de Navarra, Spain in 1988 and graduated as Medical Oncologist in 1992. Additionally, he completed the PhD doctoral program in Medicine and Surgery at Clínica Universitaria de Navarra, Spain in 1993.
